At 2,133 metres above sea level, Kodaikanal — the 'Princess of Hill Stations' — has been a honeymoon favourite for over a century. Pine forests cloak the hills, mist drifts across the star-shaped lake at dawn, and the evenings carry a gentle chill that makes a fireplace and shared blanket feel essential rather than optional.

Unlike Ooty's busier markets and Munnar's tea-estate sprawl, Kodaikanal stays compact and walkable. Most romantic spots — Bryant Park, Coaker's Walk, the lake — sit within a 2 km loop of town, leaving honeymooners time to actually rest rather than commute.

2.8 romantic places to visit in Kodaikanal

1. Kodaikanal Lake — sunrise pedal-boat

The 60-acre star-shaped man-made lake is the heart of the town. Hire a two-seater pedal boat at 7 AM when the mist is still hovering and boating crowds haven't arrived. The ₹250 you spend buys 30 of the most peaceful minutes of your honeymoon.

2. Coaker's Walk — sunset over the valley

A 1 km paved promenade along a sheer cliff edge. On clear evenings you can see all the way to Madurai's plains. Arrive 45 minutes before sunset, find a bench at the southern end and let the valley turn copper. Entry ₹10 per person.

3. Pillar Rocks — three 122 m granite pillars

Eight kilometres from town, three vertical granite pillars rise out of a deep gorge. The Pillar Rocks viewpoint is one of the most photographed spots in the Western Ghats.

4. Bryant Park — flower-lined evening walk

A 20-acre botanical garden across from the lake. Roses, dahlias and lilies are in full bloom Nov–Feb.

5. Silver Cascade Falls

180-feet of water tumbling down a vertical rock face just on the drive in from Madurai. Stop on the way up, not down — the morning light makes the spray glow silver.

6. Berijam Lake — the secret forest lake

A pristine forest-edged lake 21 km from town inside a reserved forest. Entry is permit-controlled and only 100 vehicles a day are allowed in.

7. Dolphin's Nose — cliff-top viewpoint

A 1 km downhill walk from Vattakanal village ends at a flat beak-shaped rock jutting over a 2,000-foot drop. Watch the clouds roll in below you.

8. Poombarai Village viewpoint

A terraced village 18 km from town framed by garlic terraces and cardamom plantations. One of the most under-visited spots in Kodaikanal.

6.Insider tips from our travel consultants

  • Carry a light fleece even in summer — temperatures drop after 7 PM year-round.
  • Book Berijam Lake permits at least 24 hours in advance — only 100 cars are allowed daily.
  • Avoid May 1 – May 15 long weekend if possible — rates triple and traffic at Pillar Rocks crawls.
  • Most romantic table in town: The Carlton lakeside lawn for outdoor candlelight dinner — pre-book.
  • Drive up from Madurai (3.5 hr) rather than Coimbatore (5 hr) — faster road, more scenic.

7.Frequently asked questions

How many days are enough for a Kodaikanal honeymoon?

Three nights is the sweet spot — enough for the lake, Coaker's Walk, Pillar Rocks and Berijam Lake without feeling rushed. Couples extending to Munnar should plan 5–6 nights total.

Is Kodaikanal safe for couples at night?

Yes. Kodaikanal is one of the safest hill stations in South India. Town is quiet after 9 PM but well-lit; most couples are comfortably back in their resort by 10 PM.

What is the nearest airport to Kodaikanal?

Madurai (IXM) at 120 km / 3.5 hr by car is the closest. Coimbatore (CJB) at 175 km is the alternative.

How much does a 3-night Kodaikanal honeymoon cost?

From ₹13,900 per couple for our 3N/4D Romantic Package including 3★ hotel, breakfast and private car. A 5★ Carlton-based package is around ₹38,000 per couple.

Is Kodaikanal better than Ooty for honeymoon?

Kodaikanal is more intimate, less crowded and more walkable. Ooty has more attractions but feels busier. For pure romance, we recommend Kodaikanal.
